Visual culture, in my opinion, has more to do with ideas, analysis, and appraisal. I think visual culture is about students creating and viewing all of the visual arts, not just fine arts, to understand their significance, purposes, connections, and authority. The visual arts are increasingly understood as incorporated into daily life through the mass media, computer games, local sculpture gardens, shopping malls, and so on. The visual arts are everywhere and make up most of visual culture.

Visual Arts is a subject that I have consistently enjoyed and have never been tired of it. During our visual arts course, we touched upon architecture. This was a complicated task in which buildings were created using foam. I found this task pleasurable to work on and soon found an interest in architecture and interior design. Hence, I have applied for the 3D Environmental Design program and hope to become an architect or an interior designer.

Being an active member of my community, I have helped out in many events inside and outside of school. In school, I am part of a team of enthusiastic students who design the layout of the school magazine, Exposed Ink. I am also part of the year-round yearbook course in which the students have been assigned pages to work on and finish before the deadline. We work as a team and put together ideas to form “our” yearbook. These roles require inter-personal communication skills, organization, and dedication. I have been fortunate enough to experiment with a variety of mediums. Some mediums that I have used are: glass paints, acrylic paint, silk paints and water colour paints. Apart from painting I have done other observation work in which I have used pastels/chalk, oil pastels, charcoal and colour pencils. Being a dedicated student, I hope I can qualify for the 3D Environmental Design program and join the college community.



So there it is, my essay for OCAD. The interview went well and they actually liked my ugly painting of the three witches in Macbeth, saying it has composition and a great use of the brush technique. The interview lasted an hour and then we had to take the english exam because they want to see if we can read and write. It was actually fun being there, downtown is huge. The interviewers were two old teachers and in the end they were like, "we look forward to teaching you next semester". Hopefully.
